Nervous System-Informed/ Somatic Therapy

Many people struggling with anxiety, burnout, overwhelm, or emotional disconnection spend much of their lives trying to “think” their way through what they’re feeling.

But stress, trauma, chronic overwhelm, and survival-mode functioning are not only experienced mentally—they are also experienced within the nervous system and the body.

Nervous system-informed therapy, sometimes referred to as somatic therapy, focuses on helping individuals better understand the connection between their emotions, nervous system responses, physical sensations, and internal patterns.

When the nervous system has been under prolonged stress for too long, people may begin to experience symptoms such as chronic anxiety, emotional shutdown, burnout, numbness, irritability, hypervigilance, exhaustion, or feeling disconnected from themselves and others.

At The Therapy Cove, we integrate nervous system-informed approaches to help clients develop greater awareness of how stress and emotional experiences are held within the body while learning how to move toward greater regulation, grounding, and emotional safety.

This work may include increasing awareness of bodily sensations, emotional responses, stress patterns, and nervous system states while developing tools that support regulation, connection, and healing.

Rather than focusing only on managing symptoms cognitively, somatic and nervous system-informed therapy helps create deeper awareness of the body’s role in emotional healing and long-term well-being.

This approach can be especially helpful for individuals experiencing:

  • Anxiety and chronic overwhelm

  • Burnout and emotional exhaustion

  • Trauma and survival-mode functioning

  • Emotional numbness or shutdown

  • Stress-related physical symptoms

  • Hypervigilance and nervous system dysregulation

  • Difficulty feeling present, grounded, or connected

At The Therapy Cove, we believe healing involves more than simply “getting through the day.” Our goal is to help clients feel more connected to themselves, their emotions, their bodies, and their lives in deeper and more sustainable ways.
